Breast augmentation

Breast augmentation (mammoplasty) is a common cosmetic surgery and probably one of the most famous. The procedure necessitates positioning a silicone into the muscles beneath the chest or breast region.

There are varying reasons that prompt people to consider breast augmentation. For example, some may want to enhance the size of their breasts, while others desire more symmetry because they believe their upper torso is too contracted in contrast to the other parts of their body. However, for many, there’s more than one source of motivation.

Breast Reduction surgery

While some feel like their breasts are too small, others find their breasts to be too large. A breast reduction surgery- called mammaplasty in technical literature- can correct this concern.

The procedure involves removing skin, fat and tissue to reduce the size of the breast. You may want to pursue this surgery as an option to correct a perceived congenital largeness or the resulting asymmetry from weight loss.

Tuberous breasts surgery

Tuberous breasts refer to a particular condition where the breasts are pointy or puffy due to stunted growth during puberty. However, even women who are not diagnosed with the condition consider this surgery as a viable path to improve their breast’s appearance.

Mainly, the complaints ensue from intimacy more so than one’s general appearance. Woman cover their breasts during the day, as it is our custom. So, seldom do potential patients complain about what others think, except their intimate partner(s).

Luckily, corrective breast surgery has been successful and can align with your desired look. The procedure itself involves removing excess skin, fat and tissue to reduce the size of the breasts.

Breast augmentation is performed for the following reasons:

> A woman believes her breasts are too small.

> Asymmetry of breasts

> Removal of one or both breasts, most probably due to cancer

> Changes in size, tone or shape of the breast as a result of physiological processes such as aging, weight loss

To achieve satisfactory results, you should discuss the aim of breast augmentation with our plastic surgeon.

Preparation

If you decide to go ahead with the surgery after speaking to a healthcare professional at the clinic, a consultation date will be booked for you. You will meet the surgeon during the appointment, where you will have the opportunity to discuss your expectations and concerns.

The surgeon will ask you a series of questions to solicit information regarding your goals, which will be utilised to design the best course of action. You will need to communicate the feel, size and shape you desire: We advise being as detailed as possible at the point.

The surgeon has to be mindful of your health, so he or she will ask you about your medical history, medications, herbal remedies and dietary choices.

Once the crucial information is collected, a doctor will conduct a physical examination to determine if you are fit to undergo surgery.

Given that you are an ideal candidate for breast augmentation, the surgeon will book an ideal surgery date with you.

Surgery

Anaesthesia

General anaesthesia is preferred during most breast augmentation surgeries, but the surgeon may perform it under local anaesthesia. Your surgeon will discuss this with you and, accordingly, you will be given a preparation plan.

Breast augmentation surgery

To start the surgery, your surgeon will make one incision either on the periphery of the nipple, beneath the arm or breasts. Next, he or she will separate the tissues of your breasts from the muscles and place the silicone into this opening.

Then, your surgeon will move the silicone around until it aligns with the breasts and your expectations. To finalise the procedure, he or she will close the incisions with stitches and bandage the region.

Tuberous breasts surgery

Depending on your expectations, you may undergo two cosmetic surgeries. The first procedure will concentrate on relaxing the tissue that causes a tuberous breast. It will begin when your surgeon makes an incision just large enough to insert an expander or breast implant.
Your surgeon will book a follow-up surgery that focuses on either removing the expanding or placing the implants into the place. In addition, the surgeon may recommend an additional procedure called mastopexy, designed to modify the nipples.

Breast reduction surgery

After making incisions, the surgeon will lift and remove excess skin, tissue and fat. To sculpt the desired shape, he or she will then use the leftover tissue to shape the breasts. When the surgeon is confident the result matches your goals, the incisions will be sutured.

Recovery and Results

You may organise someone to take you home, as it is unlikely you will be kept overnight. Your surgeon will provide you with extensive instructions on what to do during recovery.

You may be able to return to work after a few weeks, but this depends on the surgery’s magnitude and the job you do. Your surgeon will let you know when you can return to more strenuous activities, usually around the seventh week.

Your breast region will be tender to touch, and you will experience some swelling. But not to worry, these subside within a few weeks.

The speed in which the results become visible depends on the technique and the type of surgery you had. If the surgeon inserted the silicone beneath the muscles, it could take approximately three months. For implants positioned underneath the breast glands, the results emerge between four to six weeks.

Patients begin to see the initial results of a breast reduction within two-three weeks, which progressively becomes visible within several weeks.

You may begin to see the results of a tuberous surgery within three to six months, but this varies on the patient.
