General Questions

FAQ About Hair Transplant

Why do we lose hair?

Males lose hair more commonly than females. There is a typical hair loss type called male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia). The reasons for that aren’t fully understood, but it has something to do with the effect of male hormones on hair follicles.

It is not uncommon for females to lose hair as well. It may happen due to hormonal imbalance, after child birth or during menopause. While men commonly lose hair over certain areas of scalp, such as front and top of the scalp, for females it is more frequent to have thinning hair over a large area or whole scalp, rather than full hair loss in certain segments.

Do hair fall after hair transplant?

In most cases, almost all of the transplanted hair fall out in the first 2-3 weeks after hair transplant has been performed. No need to worry, these will regrow and look normal in the end.

Who are the candidates for hair transplantation?

Usually patients aged 25-65 are more suitable. Another important criteria is pattern baldness, such as in male type hair loss. Patients with diffuse hair loss, which is overall thinning of hair, are not very good candidates and very few of them can be eligible.

Why should I get a hair transplant?

If you have hair loss that damages your self-confidence and you cannot accept how it looks, then hair transplant is a good and effective way to significantly improve your hairline and have a very natural looking hair. It is a treatment with almost no side effects, the amount of discomfort is minimal and recovery time is very short. If you have hair loss that damages your self-confidence and you cannot accept how it looks, then hair transplant is a good and effective way to significantly improve your hairline and have a very natural looking hair. In winter, we sweat much less, so you can keep your scalp hygiene more easily, which is very crucial. Also, if you get hair transplant in winter, by the time summer comes, you will have recovered and have a very good and natural looking hair. We go out more during summer, so most of us would prefer getting the treatment in winter and have everything ready before summer comes.

Is there pain after hair transplant?

The pain and discomfort is minimal after hair transplant. Usually it goes away in approximately 4 days after treatment, however for some patients it may take a few days more.

Is age factor important in hair transplant?

It is not a wise decision to get hair transplant at an early age, when hair loss has just began. Because hair loss is progressive, and in the future, the transplanted hair area may remain but there may be further hair loss around the transplanted area. This will result in unnatural look. It is more recommended to consult with a professional doctor and arrange a long term treatment plan, instead of getting a hair transplant as soon as possible. Patients with higher age can have hair transplant as successfully as young patients, because their hair loss is finalized and the pattern is defined.

Hair transplant can be performed after the age of 24-25. There is no upper age limit.
